The Sphynx cat emerged in Toronto, Canada in 1966, born to a normally-coated domestic cat. Their distinctive hairlessness occurred through a natural genetic mutation and wasn't the first documented case of hairless cats in feline history.
The development of today's Sphynx breed incorporated several cat varieties, including the Canadian Sphynx, Devon Rex, and American Shorthair. These breeds contributed to creating the Sphynx cats we know today.
